January Goal Check-Up

At the end of the year, we shared our goals for 2022 with you all. Last week, we shared our simple system of setting a goal plan. We identified the importance of scheduling check-ups to review your progress and make adjustments as required in that goal plan. Today, we are going to share our check-up with you.

Holding yourself accountable is difficult without sharing your goals, successes, and failures with others. Through sharing, we gain support from friends and family and truly commit to our goals. Without sharing our goals with others, we give ourselves an out for why we are not progressing. These excuses become harder when we must admit them to those we cherish.

Goal check-ups help you to assess your progress as you move throughout the year, leading to success and achievement.

Goals for January 2022

  • Write one blog post per week
  • Read two fiction novels
  • Stretch twice per week

Check-up

My goal of writing one blog post per week started a little rough. After posting my goals on December 29, I had some major work projects consume a significant amount of time and missed blogging during the first week. I successfully dedicated time to write a post the following week and then was struck with COVID the week after that. In total, I successfully posted 3 articles over 4 weeks, counting this post. While I missed the mark slightly, this is significant progress over my progress in 2021.

My Top 5 Books:
Tribal Leadership by Dave Logan, John King, and Haley Fischer-Wright
The Five Dysfunctions of a Team by Patrick Lencioni
The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth by John C. Maxwell
The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell
Blink by Malcolm Gladwell
My Top 5 Books

For Christmas, I received a new e-reader. This has allowed me to carry my book around more easily, using gaps in my schedule to read. Reading two fiction novels during the month, I have realized, was slightly ambitious. I did, however, achieve this goal. During this month, I successfully read two books by Dan Brown; The Lost Symbol and Inferno. These provided me with a good break from non-fiction books and rekindled my passion for reading.

As expected, stretching twice per week was where I struggled the most this month. In total, I probably only stretched a total of four times. I have found, however, that when I wake up and stretch in the morning, I feel significantly better throughout the day. When I wait to stretch until the end of the day, I have found that I am more likely to sit on the couch and watch Game of Thrones with my wife (I know, we are behind, but we just made it to Season 7) than I am to sit on the floor and stretch.

Goals for February 2022

  • Generate a monthly schedule of articles to be developed and published for the remainder of the year.
  • Read Atomic Habits by James Clear. My mentors have continually recommended this book to me, but I’ve never taken the time to read it.
  • Stretch each morning for 15 minutes.
